POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for representing the company with clients and subcontractors on any range of subjects related to the construction phase of projects.  Will provide on-site project oversight, scheduling, safety assurance, and quality control/assurance.  Position will oversee and direct the performance of all field construction activities for craft areas in conformance with plans, specifications, schedules and cost estimates.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs the work activities of all involved craft/subcontractors in alignment with engineering deliverables.
  • Authorizes the coordination of craft personnel, material, and equipment needed to meet project schedules.
  • Integrates the contractors’ schedules into a high level master schedule.
  • Tracks the status of critical activities and changes to the critical path impacting the project.
  • Monitors, verifies and reports on construction activities for compliance with construction schedule.
  • Measure installed quantities, track and report on installed products. Includes calculating areas, distances and volumes for quality assurance and billing.
  • Perform submittal review and quality assurance of conformance in construction.
  • Assists staff, craft/subcontractors in resolving problems.
  • Responsible to enforce company policies and project specific safety policy.
  • Assures project conformance to plans/specifications, schedule, quality
  • Prepares quantity tracking, cost reporting and safety reporting.
  • Reads and interprets construction plans and specifications for quality assurance.
  • Provide proactive cost awareness and acts to coordinate project activity through planning, strategy and/or discussion with team.
  • Performs quality assurance/quality control, and documents project activities in daily logs, weekly and/or monthly construction reports to maintain an accurate project records. 
  • Conducts analysis on construction field matters, identifies and anticipates problems and possible solutions, and recommends/implements appropriate course of action.
  • Completes detailed construction reports using MS Word, MS Excel and construction management software systems.
  • Serves as project safety coordinator in field with oversight to ensure staff and contractors perform duties in safe and effective manner.
  • Conducts foreman/subcontractor meetings to review and assist in daily, weekly and monthly planning.
  • Develops, monitors, and reports on completion of subcontractor punch list activities. Maintains log for site records.
  • Identifies potential out of scope considerations and/or back charges and advises / coordinates Construction Project Manager.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to lead a construction team at the jobsite
  • Advanced knowledge of construction practices and methodology
  • Clear understanding of sequence of construction
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Effective problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Progressive knowledge of surveying, staking procedures, checking line and grade and cross sections
  • Understanding and knowledge of testing procedures
  • Ability to interpret and understand plans and specifications
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership
  • Ability to lead, manage, train, and mentor others
  • Proficiency in MS Office and technical software with ability to learn CPM and Newforma software programs
  • Ability to pass safety classes and exhibit project safety leadership
  • Good math skills (ability to: add, subtract, multiply, divide); must be able to calculate areas, distances, and volumes.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-Motivated and ability to work independently
  • Good technical writing skills including ability to use appropriate grammar and proof reading
  • Willing to train and pass all certification exams required of clients
  • Effective human relations skills to build consensus, resolve conflict and confront/address design compliance issues with contractors
  • Ability to embrace new technology and processes

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or Construction Science or related field preferred.

 

Experience:

8+ years’ construction and/or inspection experience, with 5+ years as a General Foreman or Superintendent required.  Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel required.  Must be willing to pass certifications.  Experience using project management software preferred.

  

Travel Expectations:

Overnight travel may be required.  Construction Superintendent travels in company vehicle, personal vehicle, or by commercial air travel to project site staying near project site during the work week with expenses paid.  Depending on base location of employee and/or project work, position travels up to 50% of the time.  Certain project assignments will require Construction Superintendent to be on a distant assignment for 6-8+ months with occasional trips home allowed.  Valid driver’s license with good driving record required. 

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs., depending on project work.
  • Work is primarily outside and exposure to extreme weather conditions and nature elements.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and balance.
  • Position will have extensive walking.
  • Must be able to navigate difficult terrain, including un-even surfaces, ditches, steep slopes, etc.
  • Must be able to use hands for carrying items, operating devices and/or equipment, and operating ATV vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift/carry items (i.e. testing equipment, tools, etc.)
  • Work hours dictated by contractors, and can include 12-15 hour work days.
  • Due to nature of the job, must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and/or emergencies at the job site.

*Post offer, pre-employment lifting test will be required.
