POSITION SUMMARY:  The GIS Analyst position provides expanded geospatial technical leadership on one or more projects. Technical leadership will include higher-level expertise in leading data modeling methods, a deeper understanding of spatial and other enterprise databases, data quality assurance, and quality control or other data management techniques. In addition, the position will involve understanding client needs and requirements, existing processes and workflows, and supporting the development of technical solutions preferred by the client.

 

This will include working with internal teams and with the client. The GIS Analyst will develop a current understanding of data state, workflows, and processes used to provide solutions that meet the client and project’s needs. Solutions will require the configuration of web maps, field collection tools, and dashboards. 

 

This role requires demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and recommend or make decisions regarding the best path for data development, processing, and analysis. Project work will involve process improvement, quality control, data creation from spatial and tabular sources, conversion, migration, and maintenance. Project work will apply the following analytic skills: thematic map creation, preparation of GIS and tabular data, use of analytical tools, database creation, data modeling for manipulation, and transformation.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Design, Analysis & Documentation

  • Develop and lead integration and deployment of new methods or processes for data sourcing, development, and management on client systems and internal to Bartlett & West
  • Data conversion, migration, and map production in a layered environment, including analysis support
  • Edit and create new feature classes within the map environment
  • Import and convert CAD, GPS, LiDAR, or other feature data types into a GIS environment
  • Development and support of geographic databases
  • Develop methods and perform quality assurance/quality control on GIS and non-spatial data to meet quality goals
  • Document workflows and business procedures.
  • Attend client meetings, as needed, and document key information relative to business processes, workflows, and system requirements.
  • Create mockups, workflows, design documents, and any other documentation
  • Assist in advanced GIS data creation, editing, analysis, and the configuration of map services and system workflows

Coordination

  • Prepare, conduct and document all requirements assessments, progress reviews, and other meetings
  • Oversee the process used by GIS Technicians assigned to the project to meet project deadlines
  • Participate in the training of employees and clients, including designing and developing a training program
  • Develop and participate in ongoing client maintenance and support opportunities such as presentations and relationship-building activities
  • Provide proposal support by designing new processes to meet the proposal preparation needs and estimating hours required to complete individual production tasks

Innovation

  • Primary support or lead initiatives to develop new methods or processes for data sourcing, development, and management
  • Perform research into emerging GIS technologies

  • Ability to assess spatial and non-spatial data, database models and client needs to develop data management solutions
  • Familiarity with locating and using public GIS data sources
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software
  • Possess unquestionable integrity, ethics, and the values appropriate to the company’s culture; and actively models those values internally and externally

 Education:

An associate’s degree or equivalent coursework from an accredited school in GIS, Geography, or a related field is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

5+ years’ experience working with GIS.  Experience using ESRI or Bentley software products. Familiarity with ArcGIS, specifically ArcPro and ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. Strong experience in Geographic and Spatial methodologies required. Background in wastewater collection systems, stormwater collection systems, and water systems, specifically rural water networks, is desirable.

 

Travel Expectations:

Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other office locations, project sites, attending seminars or business meetings.  Minimum travel is 10-20% of the time depending on projects.  Certain positions will require more travel.  Travel expectations will be communicated through the employee-owner’s manager, and for newly open positions, travel expectations will be reflected in the job posting announcement.  Driver’s license with clean driving record required.
