POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will assist with the preparation of NEPA documentation for a wide variety of transportation and other infrastructure projects.  This includes desktop research, field work, creating maps in ESRI ArcMap, and writing technical reports.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and/or prepare environmental permits (Section 404), NEPA documentation, biological assessments, and other environmental compliance documentation.
  • Conduct literature research and data collection for environmental investigation and documentation.
  • Perform field work associated with the collection of natural resource and other data.
  • Research federal, state, and local environmental quality and protection regulations.
  • Write various sections of environmental documents and review and edit other sections prepared by technical specialists.
  • Assist with or lead complex assignments and make independent decisions on problems and methods.
  • Assist more senior scientists on projects.
  • Take initiative, resolve problems, and identify improved procedures to assure client needs are met effectively.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • The ability to conduct research of federal, state, and local regulations and policies
  • Excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading
  • Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or daily as changes occur in project needs
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proficient with ArcMap or ARC GIS
  • Position will work in both a field and office setting
  • Willingness to embrace new technology and processes including learning other software programs.
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership
  • Good time management skills with ability to handle complex deadline driven workload
  • Ability to work independently and within a team successfully

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Geography, Range Management, or other related field required.

 

Experience:

5-10 years of related experience required.

 

Travel Expectations:

Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other office locations, project sites, attending seminars or business meetings.  Minimum travel is 10% of the time depending on projects.  Certain positions will require more travel.  Travel expectations will be communicated through the employee-owner’s manager, and for newly open positions, travel expectations will be reflected in the job posting announcement.  Driver’s license with clean driving record required.
